FROM START TO FINISH

Guide to help Clients know what to expect in the purchasing process

What is the process of buying countertops and surfaces from Pro Contracting?

With so many different types of countertop products and other surfacing materials on the market today, it can be overwhelming for consumers to process and choose which product is best for them.

Below is a “Guide” we have put together for clients to get an idea of what to expect when you come see us here at Pro Contracting. This guide is here to help you get a feel for the process, from start to finish.

Clients can call us @ 541-484-6268 to set up an appointment for us to come measure your project.  Clients can stop by our new showroom @ 1040 Tyinn St. #1 in Eugene, across from the DMV, off West 11th.  Appointments are not necessary, but will help if you are short for time and want to make sure one of us are available to help when your schedule allows.

The first steps in the process would be picking product(s), color(s), as well as setting up an appointment for us to come measure your project. If a customer has drawings with all correct measurements on hand already, they can fax, email or bring them into our showroom for estimating. Whether a client is bringing in drawings of their project, or Pro Contracting is on the job site measuring for an estimate, the following items are some of the questions that will be asked in order to give the client a correct estimate the first time.

  • Product(s) & Color(s) – Many products & color options to choose from!

  • Sink - Re-using existing? Buying new? Undermount? Drop-In/Self-Rimming?

  • Backsplash – Type of material used, height of splash, outlets, etc.?

  • Edge Detail - Pro Contracting has (4) “No Charge” details to choose from, along with many others

  • Range – Type of “Cooktop/Range” the client has or will have: Free-Standing, Drop-In, Slide-In

  • Angles/Radius’ – Are there angles in your kitchen? On an island, peninsula, inside corners?

  • Supports – Will the client need Pro Contracting to furnish, fabricate/finish & install steel bar supports under any overhangs that exceed 6” or more?

  • Tear-Out – Will the client need Pro Contracting to remove the existing countertops, sink, backsplash, etc?

  • Plumbing – Will the client need Pro Contracting to schedule a plumber to follow us after we are finished installing your project?  Pro Contracting is not licensed for plumbing installations (hooking up sinks, faucets, etc.)

  • Job Location – City location? For installation purposes: Access to the job site? Is there clear pathways, outside and inside the job site for the installers to safely carry materials / countertops? Safety of our install crews and the clients is the #1 priority.

Again, these are the basic questions we ask all clients, residential or commercial, to get the best, most precise estimate to them the first time! There may be more questions or requests a client has, but whatever it may be, you will see the above items and others that may come up, all listed out in detail on our estimates.

During this decision making process we will go over the “Product Disclaimer” & “Countertop Preparation Guide”. These are available to print out here on our website for clients to read & sign ahead of time if they choose.  These are to make each client aware of what to expect with each product & color.  At time of signing the estimate, we ask each client to sign those guides as well so they are aware of the properties and details of the product they are choosing.  Whether it is being aware of natural fissures & pits in natural stones, or maintenance of dark colors of solid surface, we want each client to be educated and aware of all these details.

This brings us to the next step in the process… Securing Dates for Templating & Installation.  In order to secure your project dates for templating & installation, we ask every client to sign their Estimate, Preparation Guide & Product Disclaimer.  Along with those 3 things we asked to be signed, we also ask the client for a “Half-Down Payment” to order materials & reserve their times and dates on our schedule.  With these being done, it keeps the schedule moving along smoothly and on time, so there are no delays to disrupt their job or others already on the schedule.

Timelines for Kitchens: Templating & Installation

Most residential jobs in Solid Surface materials (Corian, Hi-Macs, Wilsonart, etc) on average takes a week to a week and a half (business days) from the time we template to the time of installation. Granite & Quartz residential jobs typically take a week and a half to two weeks (business days) from time of template to installation.

Items Pro Contracting needs from every client to have ready for templating:

  • Sink(s): to be used for their new countertops so we can bring them back to our shop with us to make sure all measurements directly off the sink you are using.
  • Range: Whether a client has a Free-Standing Range, Slide-In Range, or a Drop-In Cooktop, we need these on the jobsite in order to get measurements off them or bring them back with us for the fabrication process.
  • Cabinets: ALL cabinets need to be installed and level before we template!  If a cabinet is moved after templating and the countertop does not fit at time of installation, there will be additional charges.

At time of installation:

  • We ask that the client be there at the time of installation so when we drill the faucet hole(s), the client can tell our installation crews the exact location they want the faucet. If a client has a hot water dispenser, or any other item that needs a hole drilled through countertop, would be done at the same time as the faucet(s).
