How much does granite cost?

Pro Contracting only uses the highest quality “Grade A” Granite & other Natural Stone slabs.  You will not find “pre-fab” granite here like you can find at the box stores. Everything here is custom and comes from the finest stones you can find.  Typically these Grade A granite slabs will start at around $50.00 sq. ft. INSTALLED (approx) for 2cm material.  Granite can go up above the $100 price range fairly easy depending on the stone and thickness you pick.  On average the typical kitchen in granite is around the $65-$85 (sq. ft. installed) price range.

How much is Quartz per sq. ft. installed? What brands of Quartz do you carry?

Pro Contracting carries (6) brands of Quartz products.LG Viatera, DuPont Zodiaq, Caesarstone, Silestone, HanStone & Samsung Radianz.  These are all manufactured using the same process, but made in different areas of the nation or the world.  Quality of these brands is the same.  If one was of a lesser quality than another we carried, we would not use that brand.  Having 7 different Quartz brands here in our showroom not only gives clients a huge range of options to choose from, but typically we can match another color of a brand we may not carry. Quartz price range is about $55.00 - $82.00 sq. ft. installed, depending on which color and thickness you choose.  Quartz is made in 2cm (3/4” thick) and 3cm (1 ¼” thick) slabs.  Slabs range from 55” x 120” to 63” x 128”, again depending on which brand or color you may choose.

What brands of Solid Surface Acrylics does Pro Contracting carry? What is the price range of these products?

Pro Contracting carries Corian, LG Hi-Macs, Staron, Wilsonart, Livingstone.  We have access to a few others as well, but for pricing and color choices of these listed above, makes these the most popular.  Again, if the quality of any of these were inferior to another, we would not carry that product.  Prices can range anywhere from $40.00 - $68.00 sq. ft. installed depending on color and brand a client chooses. Manufacturer Warranties vary depending on brand anywhere from 10 years to 15 years.  Solid Surface Countertops are made in ½” thickness and come in sheets of 30” x 144”.  Solid Surface materials are also made in ¼” thickness for use on shower walls, etc. ¼” is not recommended for countertop use.

What are some of the standard dimensions on countertops & appliances?

Kitchen countertops are almost always 25 ¼” deep from front edge to back wall.  This dimension includes the 1 ¼” standard overhang we fabricate the countertops to.  Vanity countertops typically are 22 ¼” deep from front edge to back wall with an 1 ¼” overhang included in that dimension as well.

A Free-Standing Range is 30” wide.  Drop-In cooktops can carry from 30” – 36” wide and above.  Sizes can vary on appliances, but these are the average size for these listed above.  This is why we need to have each client’s range on the jobsite at time of templating and do not cut to “Spec Sheets”.Dimensions from “Specs” do not always match up, therefore WE NEED these appliances on the jobsite at time of templating.  Sinks also need to be on the jobsite at time of templating for the same reason!

What about my backsplash? Do I need to replace it at the same time?

Typically a client will replace their backsplash at the same time of doing new countertops.  When we template for a clients newcountertops, we template right to the walls for the best, most accurate fit.  Some options for backsplash are the using the same material and color as the countertop material.  Other options clients go with are tile.  Some also incorporate tile with the same material as countertop.  This is a decision that can be made before templating and be figured into the estimate for the client.  A client may decide to keep their existing backsplash; therefore this takes more time for templating and fabrication to get the best, most appealing fit with the new countertops.

How much will new backsplash cost?

If a client wants to use the same materials for backsplash as they are using for countertops, the backsplash is figured into the TOTAL SQ. FT. of countertops.Additional charges would be for “Cove” (Integrated) backsplash in the solid surface materials.  Quartz backsplash is “Set-On” and will also be figured into the sq. ft. total of the countertops.  Tile backsplash is figured per job.  Tile backsplash will be figured for materials and labor in each estimate.  There are countless materials and designs that we can create for you.  Most of the time a client will choose the backsplash material and design at the same time they select their product and color.

Where do I select granite colors?

Clients can select colors from samples we have here in our showroom to get started.  We also have slabs here in stock at most times for clients to see and choose.  Another option that we may recommend is if a client does not see anything here in our showroom they are looking for, we have them go to one of our Stone/Granite Distributors in Portland.  Our distributors carry only the finest, Grade A quality slabs and house hundreds of different colors to choose from.  This way the client may find a color they never knew existed.  When a client is remodeling or building a new house, and making an investment on their new countertops, this is a great way to “Handpick” your own slabs for your new project!

Where can I select tile for backsplash, shower & tubs surrounds, flooring, etc.?

Clients can choose from a number of tile designs, products & colors here in our showroom.  From natural stone tiles to porcelain, ceramic, glass and metals, there are hundreds of possibilities to choose from.  Another option is to look at our tile distributors’ showrooms that are just a block or two away from our showroom.  If there is something we do not have here, they will!

Can I cut on my granite, quartz, or solid surface countertops?

Granite is a harder surface than your knife blades and can dull them very quickly!  Some clients request cutting boards, but most of the time they use a Corian cutting board or wood, as they are lighter and easier to move around the kitchen.  With a solid surface cutting board you can buff out any scratch, as it is the color all the way through the material.  Quartz surfaces are also going to dull your knife blades.We recommend using a solid surface or wood cutting board as well.

What exactly is the “Quartz” slabs made of?

Each quartz slab is comprised of 93% crushed quartz.  Quartz rock is one of the hardest rocks found on earth.  The other 7% of the make-up of quartz slabs is polymer resin and color.  The end result is a completely non-porous, virtually no-maintenance countertop surface!  We fabricate the quartz products using the same fabrication techniques as we do with granite and natural stones.  The use of diamond polishing pads and router bits is how we finish the granite, quartz & other natural stone countertops.
