SOLID SURFACECare & Maintenance

_____________________________

Your Solid Surface Countertops are designed to last a lifetime of easy care.  With the proper care, your countertops can stay looking new.

Routine Care:

The recommended finish by Pro Contracting for countertops is a Matte/Satin Finish.

For everyday cleaning use soapy water (soft liquid dish soap) and a clean cloth or sponge.  Towel Dry.  To remove most dirt and stubborn spots that won’t wipe off with soapy water, try Mr. Clean or 409 and a clean cloth or sponge.  Again, towel dry. (to prevent water spots.)

Difficult Stains:

Even though your Solid Surface Countertops are totally nonporous and guaranteed not to stain, you will find from time to time that certain items become stubborn to remove.  For example: soda pop, red food dye, berry juice, mustard, red wine & spaghetti sauce.  If this happens, try the routine care using Mr. Clean or 409.  If you are unable to remove the difficult stain, use ½ sheet of Grey Scotch Brite that was given at the time of your Care & Maintenance appointment.  Dampen the Scotch Brite and with an easy circular motion around the stain area, try to buff the spot out.  Then dry with a clean cloth.  Do next step with white Scotch Brite, same method.  Dry and buff area until it blends with top.

Removing Minor Cuts and Scratches:

Your Solid Surface Countertops are totally and completely renewable, which makes it possible to buff out cuts and scratches.  Please follow the following steps…  Use a piece of 320 Grit Sandpaper approximately 3” x 3”.  Use an easy circular motion on and around the area using your fingertips.  DO NOT SAND HARD IN ONE DIRECTION.  Once the minor cut or scratch is removed, clean the area and use Grey and White Scotch Brite, same method as Routine Care.  If you are not comfortable to do this on your own, please call Pro Contracting.

Sinks:

Solid Surface sinks will generally require more maintenance than the countertops.  (Kitchen Sinks especially)

Periodically scrub sink with Grey Scotch Brite and Soft Scrub Abrasive Cleanser.  Takes less than two minutes, makes sink look like new, just rinse with water, towel dry not necessary.

Precaution – always run warm water from tap, for about a minute before and during you pouring boiling water into the sink.  This acclimates the sink and allows it to expand and contract accordingly.

Preventing Heat Damage:

Hot pans, and extreme heat appliances such as crock- pots and electric skillets can damage solid surface.  Always put hot pans and appliances on trivets or Pro Contracting furnished cutting boards with feet.
