SOLID SURFACE COUNTERTOP & SURFACE DISCLAIMER
1. These products are made using an acrylic base material. A few colors have an acrylic base with the combination of some polymers for strength. All are non-porous and are designed to resist staining and scratching. These materials are not scratch proof, but any scratches can usually be removed from the surface of the material. All seams in the surface and edges will be inconspicuous, however they may not entirely disappear from sight. Variations in lighting and angle may highlight or expose the location of such seams
2. With all of the solid surface brands listed above that we offer, there are a number of very dark and solid colors. When a client is considering using these colors, we ask that they keep in mind these colors are not recommended for kitchens or other areas of high traffic, as they will require higher maintenance in order to keep the original finish and appearance. Dark colors (browns, blacks, blues, greens) - scratches will appear white.
3. No Solid Surface is indestructible. Solid Surface is heat resistant, scratch resistant & stain resistant. Solid Surface IS NOT “scratch-proof” or “heat-proof”. Solid Surface will not stain. Although a client may see a “hard surface stain” in a sink, countertop or any other surface, the hard surface stain can be easily removed with a light buffing of WHITE Scotch Brite pad. Typically spaghetti sauces, coffee, wines, can leave a “film” on the surface of the sink if left to sit. If this occurs in your Solid Surface sink, all that is needed to rid the sink of this is a light, non-abrasive liquid gel such as Soft Scrub. Use of the Soft Scrub and WHITE Scotch Brite pad, you can very easily remove these “hard surface stains” in a matter of seconds.
Solid Surface is an extremely durable material, but can scratch if not careful with knives, tools, etc. We recommend all clients use a cutting board that we provide them with their kitchens. Although Solid Surfaces can scratch, the material is the same color all the way through the surface; therefore, scratches can be sanded or buffed out. With light buffing using the gray and white Scotch Brite pads we provide in the Care & Maintenance packages, the client can feather out the scratches to get the surface back to the original finish. If a client has any questions on buffing or sanding scratches, please give us a call and we will be happy to help you out!
4. Solid Surface can burn on the surface if excess heat is applied. In extreme cases such as a hot skillet or pots and pans moved directly onto the countertop from the stove, the Solid Surface can crack. We recommend our clients use the cutting board(s) we provide them at time of installation or another cutting board or trivet to protect the countertop or surface. The smaller size of a Solid Surface cutting boards allow for the material to expand and contract. The Solid Surface countertops are set in one place, with edges and corners not having room to expand and contract therefore, having a more likely chance of cracking. ANY and ALL damage can be corrected, but will only be covered by Warranty if the surfaces have been treated with care by following the strict guidelines Pro Contracting has stated above as well as in accordance with the guidelines of the manufacturer’s.
Each client needs to understand that Solid Surface sinks CAN crack as well. When pouring extremely hot water directly into a Solid Surface sink, the client will need to first acclimate the sink with hot tap water from the faucet for a minute or so. This will allow the Solid Surface to expand and warm up to handle the boiling water being dispersed into the sink. As a crack in a countertop or surface can be rectified, the same can be done with a solid surface sink. Please follow these guidelines carefully, as warranty states.
Pro Contracting will always stand by our workmanship of the countertops and surfaces we supply and install, but will not accept any responsibility for such problems as scratching, burning, cracking, etc. that have occurred as a result of not following the outlines stated above and/or in the Manufacturer’s Warranty. Pro Contracting will not take responsibility for dissatisfaction due to the choice of color, in particular the darker, higher pigmented colors, which will show scratches, and signs of use, more so than the lighter colors and those with larger particulates.
5. Colors with veining or directional patterns may show where an edge or seam was needed to join the materials together. Colors with Mica will show directionality more than other colors. Please be advised that while seams in Solid Surface are inconspicuous, they are NOT INVISIBLE. Although seams are typically not seen with the naked eye, there is the possibility of them being seen, especially with certain colors that are directional and/or have Mica in them.
