RECYCLED PAPER COUNTERTOP & SURFACE DISCLAIMER
RICHLITE / PAPERSTONE
The recycled paper products we carry: Richlite & PaperStone are both made from 100% post-consumer recycled paper that has been saturated with phenolic resins and natural pigments. Resin-saturated sheets are stacked together and pressed together where they are bonded together under intense heat and pressure.
Both Richlite and PaperStone’s non-porous surface provides a lifetime of stain resistance.
Both products also absorb virtually no water.
Surface cuts, scrapes, wear, may be sanded or rubbed out with a light abrasive pad and treated with a natural beeswax, food-grade oil. These products are extremely rigid and dense and will not delaminate. The color comes from the natural color of the cardboard/paper and the pigments used in the manufacturing process. The color is not a surface treatment. It is all the way through the product.
Both recycled paper products will develop a seasoned appearance that is an inherent characteristic of the material. The aging process takes time and there will be deeper luster in areas of heavier use. Overall, it will appear softer and deeper in tone. Aging begins with the manufacturing process and may take a number of years to complete. It is similar to the manner in which natural wood products acquire a deeper, richer tone over time. The aging and patina process is a natural progression. It is most noticeable on the lighter colors. For this reason, there is no cause for concern and you should expect tonal differences between sheets at the time of installation, even if they are from the same batch. However, as the sheets age, the tones and color will create a more uniform appearance over time.
Color and brightness may vary from sheet to sheet. This variation is expected in a product composed of natural materials. Samples may appear different than the installed product due to the age and patina of the samples and the differing thickness of the materials.
These recycled paper products, have a mottled appearance, in which patterns show a striated effect lengthwise. This is less apparent on dark colors; however, the mottled appearance is still visible. These qualities are due to the natural variation in the cardboard/paper used to make the material.
The surface texture and level varies. There will be more texture when it is first installed and it will become smoother and develop more of a luster over time and with use. It may also have a slight unevenness here and there on the surface level; this is because it is pressed into sheets, not molded. If this is ever apparent, it will be very minor and is not a defect. Even though we try our best to hide seams, you will be able to see them. They will be well within industry standards.
Every client needs to be aware that these products will show a natural wear pattern and patina over time, as all natural wood does. With the natural wear and the wear from everyday use, these products will have their own great, unique look.
